About Our Club
The Mineral Area Modeling Association (MAMA) AMA Charter #1581 began in 1973 in the back of a hobby store in Bonne Terre MO.  The club was flying at the Bismarck Airport in Bismarck MO.  In 1976, the St. Joe Minerals Corp. donated land to the State of Missouri to build an Off Road Vehicle recreational park located between Park Hills and Farmington MO.  The club members petitioned the State to include a radio controlled flying field at the newly acquired park property. Letters were written to Senators and Representatives lobbing for a R/C flying field. The work paid off and a section of land was set aside and labeled R/C Flying Field.

The flying field is located off Loughboro Road at the South end of the Park. The continued existence of the flying field is only possible through a cooperative effort between the park management and the Mineral Area Modeling Assoc.

Mineral Area Modeling Assoc.  provides site owner protection insurance through the insurance program at the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).

The Mineral Area Modeling Assoc. (MAMA) is responsible for establishing and enforcing rules (With the assistance of St. Joe Park Rangers) tailored to the flying site and also following the guide lines set by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA)

Mineral Area Modeling Assoc. and those that fly at the flying field is responsible for mowing the runway, taxiway and pit area of the flying site.

The park mows the larger portion of the flying field and maintains the buildings and grounds.

The Mineral Area Modeling Association was formed for the purpose of encouraging and promoting the hobby of radio controlled model aviation.  Safety is of top concern. This organization was also formed to create a family atmosphere where pleasure, recreation, fellowship, and co-mingling can be fostered and found to exist amongst individuals enjoying the sport of building and flying R/C airplanes at all levels in a setting where informality and safety of operation prevail.
