St. Joe State Park Flying Field Rules
1) It is recommended for all persons flying at the R/C Flying Field to carry liability insurance equal to that offered by AMA.
2) Muffler is required on "10" size and up two cycle engines. It may be any type of muffler. If a muffler becomes unserviceable, the flyer
may finish the day without it.
3) You must place your name on the frequency control board corresponding to the channel number of your transmitter prior to turning it
on. If others are on the same channel, you must communicate with them and make an agreement on who can have their transmitter
turned on at any given time. Spread spectrum radio users must place their name on the frequency control board in the assigned place
indicating they are flying a spread spectrum radio.
4) Maximum of 30 minutes at a time on shared channels.
5) When engines/motors are started and/or run anywhere, the person starting and/or in control of the engine/motor must ensure that
bystanders are not in front of or in the propeller arc within a reasonable distance.
6) All area from the flight line of each runway to and including the pits is a no-fly zone and shall be avoided.
7) Gliders may be hand launched from the red markers on the taxi way away from the pits if no one is on the intersecting runway.
8) If a second flyer wishes to fly, the flyer must bring a spotter out to the flight line. This spotter will serve the 1st and 2nd flyer. Each
additional flyer must bring a spotter with them to the flight line. A flight instructor performing flight instruction does not count as a
spotter.
9) Before taxing onto the runway, obtain clearance from all pilots on the flight line.
10) All takeoff's, landing attempts, low fly-by and touch and goes must be called by the pilot or spotter.
11) The first pilot on the flight line will determine the active runway and the direction of flight. If any pilot on the flight line would like to
reverse the direction for a takeoff or landing, a gentlemen's agreement must be made between the pilots.
12) It is possible for both runways to be active if all pilots on the flight line are aware of such and the pilots on the East West runway are
stationed West of the taxi way and the pilots on the North South runway are stationed South of the taxi way. In addition, a spotter is
required on each runway.
13) Do not taxi into pit area. Stop your plane at red markers.
14) There shall be no flying during runway mowing operation.
15) If a scheduled flying event or activity is taking place, no open flying shall be permitted.
16) R/C Flying is restricted to that of AMA open class membership: Free flight, Gliders, Rubber Band, Electric, Glow and Gasoline powered
aircraft under 55 lbs. No Turbine powered aircraft or Rocketry will be allowed. In addition, no pyrotechnics may be added to any
aircraft or used in any way.
17) The mowing and maintenance of the runways, taxi way and pit areas is not performed by the State of Missouri. These areas are
maintained by those utilizing the flying field. The Mineral Area Modeling Association is responsible for the organization of these
tasks. Any person flying at the R/C flying field may be required to assist with these duties. Exceptions to this rule will be visitors
camped at St. Joe State Park and those flying not more than three times a year.
18) Compliance to these rules is the responsibility of each participant.
